On September 18, 2010 five law abiding Wisconsin residents were peacefully having dinner at a Culver’s Restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin. These 5 individuals, who were legally openly carrying as provided by Wisconsin law had finished their dinner and were preparing to leave the restaurant when they were unlawfully detained by a mass of Madison police officers.

Despite the absence of reasonable suspicion or probable cause of any crime or violation, Madison police illegally demanded identification from the men under the threat of arrest if they did not comply. 2 individuals who chose not to comply with the illegal action of the Madison police were subsequently arrested and cited for obstruction. 2 days later those unlawfully issued citations were rescinded and all 5 men, even those who complied with the officers illegal demands were issued citations for disorderly conduct.

On May 5th of 2011, the frivolous disorderly conduct charges against all 5 men were dropped.

Wisconsin Carry, Inc. a non-profit corporation dedicated to protecting and advancing the right of Wisconsinites to carry in the manner of their choosing, open or concealed, filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Madison and the 5 Madison Police officers who participated in the unlawful detainment and treatment of these 5 individuals.

Welcome to Concealed Wisconsin!  In today’s show I’m going to vent a little, because I still haven’t gotten my Concealed Weapons License in the mail yet and I sent the application in on November 1st!  Next, there are a couple things in the news that I’d like to cover and bring to your attention, then I’ll close the programs with some thoughts from this month’s NRA Magazine “America’s First Freedoms.”

  • Where is my License?  I still haven’t received my Concealed Carry License yet from the Department of Justice.  Now honestly, I didn’t expect it to come until December anyways, but since so many people have been talking about it online and sharing their “mail-in date” and license numbers, I’m starting to get jealous!

Note: I mis-spoke during this podcast and said that Krysta Sutterfield was arrested in Brookfield for CCL violation, but it was actually Milwaukee where she was arrested.

Thanks for listening to our inaugural podcast!  In today’s show, we interviewed Nik Clark – President and founder of Wisconsin Carry, Inc.  We discussed Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law, open carry, permits, school zones,  and a who lot more!

Notes:

  • It was mentioned that my comment on the Sheriff of Milwaukee County being anti carry was incorrect – I was referring to the Milwaukee Chief of Police  Ed Flynn.
