A lot of people in Wisconsin are asking, “which states will recognize Wisconsin’s Concealed Carry Permit?” Concealed Carry Reciprocity is an important question, especially for those who travel across the boarder often and like to carry a weapon for self defense.
Unfortunately, the list won’t be finalized until other states have a chance to digest the law and determine if it meets their requirements for reciprocity. However, according a post on OpenCarry.org by a member of Wisconsin Carry, Inc., a staffer for Republican Senator Glenn Grothman – 20th Senate District, replied to a request for a list of “likely” states that have similar standards to Wisconsin’s new law.
The list includes:
AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MS, MO, MT, NE, NH, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WY
(List is subject to change)
This preliminary list is bound to change in the future, but as it stand right now, it is a pretty good list of states. Being that I travel our neighboring state to the west frequently – I am a bit disappointed that Minnesota isn’t on the list, but given some time they may decide to reciprocate too.

i think all states should accept the concealed carry permits or the states that do not should have to take wisconsin hunters safety course to hunt or fish in our state fair is fair if our state is insupperior to concealed carry laws then take our hunters education course to hunt or fish in our state.
i agree with this coment we should honer those who honers us
Looks like a very well done site. I’m an Il. resident who has a FL CC permit and am hoping that it will be honored by Wis. The irony of this is that it will make me legal in any state boardering mine, but not my own! (yet)
Thanks John. I hope that Illinois will soon recognize your 2nd Amendment right too.
I’ve just applied for my wi ccl, looking forward to riding my motorcycle on long trips this upcoming season needed to know where i can/cannot carry with my ccl,as i don’t want to violate the laws of neighboring states. Thanks for making it easier to stay legal.
I think the ccl issued by Wi should be honored in every state that has ccl being issued. Wi ccl requirements were well thought out and being one of the last states to issue them we had a chance to learn from the other states just what they have and if there were any problems. This site is great. DOJ is doing a good job. Thank you!
Which states have a reciprocity agreement with WI not a maybe but definetly.
Check out the Reciprocity Map at https://concealedwisconsin.com/reciprocity for up-to-date information on who accepts who. Thanks! Andy
I travel from Wisconsin to Florida every week my okwith my concealed carry thank you
I travel in all the midwest states. Any state that won’t honor my concealed carry permit, I will travel around and spend my money in states that do honor my permit and rights.
I went through a 4 hour class for conceal carry here in Wisconsin and getting a conceal carry permit for having gone through hunters safety is not right you do not learn things in hunters safety that you learn in conceal classes they should put a stop to it and make the people that have them go through conceal carry class .
Thanks for the comment. I recommend that everyone take a training class, for their own understanding, but I am against mandatory classes in general, because the government is not supposed to infringe on your right to carry.
Can somebody answer my question im planning in a future to live in florida…i have a ccw of wisconsin will there be any problem if i bring my firearm
James Williams,
nobody learns firearm proficiency in 4 hrs. The hunters safety course along with reading the legal use of force guidelines from the DOJ site while including my 37 years of hunting/firearms handling experience i’m far more capable than anyone with only the required 4 hrs CCL class. I have more training than armed security guards… and even ore than some law enforcement. Not to say the 4 hr class is worthless or that there would be no benefit but its just creates some serious safety issues for anyone not already experienced in firearms handling. There are some that should only be given permits to carry marshmallows because of stupidity. For those already with training it might be enough but others simply dangerous to rely on 4 hrs. CCL class covers mostly what department of justice site basically already includes with the C.C.L application, it touches on the legal and justified use of force! There however is some expectation permit holders further educate themselves and use common sense as well as look further into legal the issues before carrying a firearm, maybe even get some proper legal advice. The C.C.L class is a very basic stepping stone and again safety won’t happen in a 4 hr class after handing out the same brochure and a short lecture on what the DOJ sends us anyway. I took hunters safety myself and again along with each of my 3 children and its gotten pretty advanced these days. One of the classes in total was over 60 hrs plus additional time for those that wanted archery certification besides. Each time i took the course we completed an 8 hr day just at the range, loading & unloading while shooting different rifles, shotguns, muzzle loaders with several different instructors and one even went into safety on use of handgun for purpose of hunting/trapping. Every day instructors instructed and showed students to properly handle than allowed them to handle different types of firearms themselves. Each student had to be tested off on the different types of firearms dozens of times even before range day. After passing the written test portion we were than required to demonstrate our skills at the range before receiving our certificate, demonstrate we could safely load & unload, safely disassemble and reassemble several types of firearms including identifying and naming all parts of each. We were required to know how to properly clean and maintain the firearm. All of this while pounding into our minds proper muzzle control and safety. We were required to understand as well as demonstrate at the range how to properly aim and use different types of sights and we even went into testing to see which of our eyes was the dominant eye. The 4 hr C.C.W class hardly touches on anything that would certify permit holders by having them demonstrate they can safely and responsibly handle and have respect for firearms. At the start of the course we were bluntly told that including adults, if anyone could not demonstrate safety and respect for firearms at all time and pass written/oral tests and demonstrate all skills required and demanded of each instructor we would simple be failed. If we did not show respect each and every class day we would be send home with instant fail period. I know a CCL instructor personally and he even agreed with me.
I forgot to say the reason many states wont reciprocate is because other states require finger prints to be done. strict requirements including range time, and other things like demonstrating capability. not just 1 night and your done. also wisconsin is a shall issue state that meens if you pass background check and take class you get it. Other states are may issue if they see reason and law enforcement approves it. Huge differences, its why i would support constitutional carry or federal CCL permit option additionally, a 1 permit covers all.
I think if you have a CCW license from the state you live in, you should be able to carry in any state that offers there citizens a CCW permit!
If a person has a permit issued by their state why isnt that permit honored in all states here in America?,it isnt like the carry permit’s are just handed out to anyone who want’s one. Al
